3ds Max: the Windows-native studio route
Autodesk offers 3ds Max through subscription or Flex access for Windows; check the system requirements for your exact release. A native MAX scene is the clearest route when the team already uses 3ds Max, its plugins, and its renderer-specific materials. Platform and license requirements belong in the project decision.
The benefit is strongest when the team shares the same application and version. Keep a test file for older or externally sourced assets so conversions do not surprise the final scene.
Make the decision with one test asset
Pick one representative furniture or lighting model and run the same checks in both workflows: import time, scale, hierarchy, textures, material response, camera placement, and final handoff. Record the result in the project board rather than relying on memory.
Choose Blender when platform flexibility and a no-cost open tool matter most. Choose 3ds Max when the project already depends on Windows, MAX scenes, and its plugin or renderer pipeline. If neither is fixed, let the representative asset test decide.
